"The procurement process to identify a contractor to undertake the design and construction of the
permanent works is now complete; following an initial period to complete the design the submitted draft programmes
indicate works will need to commence on site early July 2016 to allow the bridge to be re- opened by the beginning
There must be many residents who are finding the closure of Sprint Bridge very inconvenient, causing
them longer journeys through Kendal in order to access Burneside and all places north along the A591. However the hamlet
of Oakbank is enjoying a wonderful period of respite from the traffic of the busy back road which links the A6 and
Burneside. Now that the bemused HGV drivers have finally got the message that there really is no through road to anywhere
down this way, we are enjoying the peace and quiet. There seems to be more abundant wildlife and absolutely no litter.
We shall be enjoying the remaining weeks of splendid isolation.
